DESCRIPTION

Nicotine, commonly known as nicotine, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C10H14N2, which is highly toxic. It is an alkaloid found in plants of the Solanaceae family (Solanaceae) and an important component of tobacco. It is also a representative of N-choline receptor agonists and has no clinical application value for both N1 and N2 receptors and the central nervous system.

Nicotine can cause addiction or dependence, and repeated use of nicotine can also increase heart rate, increase blood pressure, and reduce appetite. High doses of nicotine can cause vomiting and nausea, and in severe cases, people can die. Tobacco usually contains nicotine. Electronic cigarettes also contain the harmful substance nicotine of traditional tobacco.

USES

• Nicotine constitutes approximately 0.6–3.0% of the dry weight of tobacco.^[14] Nicotine is also present at ppb-concentrations in edible plants in the family Solanaceae, including potatoes, tomatoes, and eggplants,^[15] though sources disagree on whether this has any biological significance to human consumers.^[15] It functions as an antiherbivore toxin; consequently, nicotine was widely used as an insecticide in the past,^[16][17] and neonicotinoids (structurally similar to nicotine), such as imidacloprid, are some of the most effective and widely used insecticides.
